What I’m Drinking: Big Basin Coastview Vineyard Syrah “Terraces”

Put your nose in a glass of this Monterey County Syrah from Big Basin Vineyards and you’ll find a big bouquet of violet floral aromas.

This is a savory wine, with anise and tobacco notes, black fruit and granite minerality. The fruit comes from Monterey County’s highest vineyard, sitting at 2,400 feet in elevation. The 2014 “Terraces” is Big Basin’s first bottling from a steep, rocky, terraced block within the Coastview Vineyard, resulting in an intense, complex wine.
